| Nope No. Just a wire form that they used to use to ship covers if you ordered a replacement. They made them for the diamond chair too. Now they just throw them in a box. | |||||

| Not that big a deal. Diamond and Bird chairs without covers look nice, but they're unpleasant to sit on. With proper covers, I think they look even nicer -- isn't Woofwoof's photo of the blue one pretty? -- plus they're REALLY comfortable. Put some covers on those chairs and no one will know or care what the welds look like underneath. | |||||

| ... top shelf hangs with the metal type bracket on brass dowels coming out of the inside of the tracks. The entire unit is about 6 1/2 feet tall. The cabinet with the glass doors also has a glass shelf that fits inside(I removed to gain height inside). The bottom cabinet has 4 drawers. Both cabinets hang over brass dowels on the tracks. There is no mark on any of the pieces that I can locate. I have not been able to find any other units that have the diamond style frosted glass sliding doors like mine, nor have I found one that has the "baseboard cutout." ... | |||||

| I already got the table and... I already got the table and I paid for it. It shall get here within 3months. I didn?t knew about knock-off until I read the post here, which was like 3 days after paying for the table. For some reason I was reading about the Haero and I accidently read a post about some iconic designs like Le Coubusier?s designs and other ones made by Alivar, and some mentioned that they are a knock-off. I was kinda shocked to know that. I mean I am a Computer Scientist and not an architect. By anyway the table costed me like 5,000Euro from Ali ... | |||||

| ... so it might be more susceptible to chipping or scratching than the Knoll. If I were prepared to pay 8000 euro for that 3-high Kast storage unit, I think I would also consider the Eames ESU; it's much less expensive -- approximately 1500 euro -- and (in my opinion) looks better. You'd have to buy two in order to have as much storage space as the Kast offers, but you'd still save 5000 euros. The Haero is a big, solid sofa, and you've purchased it in white leather, so it'll look even bigger. The temptation would be to pair it with big leather chairs -- Le Co ... | |||||

| A little hint One way to tell the difference between a Knoll Bertoia piece and a reproduction is to look at the ends of the wires. Knoll flattens and tapers them to form a smooth finish where they meet the bar forming the frame. The knock offs don't have this detail, the wires are just straight cut. Knoll is now embossing the frame with their logo on the cross bar under the seat on the diamond and Bird chairs. | |||||

| ctu. I am pretty much convinced they were KEAS "interpretation" of the Bertoia diamond chair. (Just as IKEA now has interpretations of Aalto's, Rams' etc. work for sale) Artie, they were never meant to be used as such, they came with a thick padded seating pad (that had to be attached with elastics to the frame). However, the frame is pretty robust & the seating pad did get soiled with use (and did spoil the architectural look of the chair). So most chairs lived on without a cushion.. With seating pad the chair was surprisingly comfortable. Without the pad y ... | |||||

| ... seat and base as Knoll production chairs. Also, despite the ostensibly hand made quality of the chair in the Wright auction, it does not have big globs at each connection point. If you concede on each of these points (the wavy or bent wires, the sloppy welds, the questionable connecting bar, the fact that it's not chrome plated, it looks spray painted sliver... and still want to believe it's authentic, what you have is a very screwed up diamond chair. Unless you have unimpeachable provenance that it was hand made by Harry Bertoia, you can't begin to claim t ... | |||||

| Aside from the soldering... Aside from the soldering iron weld job, the most glaring issue is how the base and seat are unified. The photo below is from Wright20th which according to them, a 90's diamond chair. If you go directly to their site you can zoom into the photo more. Look at the profile chair view, and zoom in on the seat/frame connection. See the horizontal track/rail bar. Iuiu's chair base is seamless (for lack of better word)...no track/rail type connection. Now, compare it to iuiu's chair. When viewing his/her picture at the site, choose ... | |||||
| To answer both questions | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | Pegboard Modern | General discussion | |
| To answer both questions Barry, the Bertoia pieces were not knocked off early on (like the Eames lounge or Noguchi coffee table) it's a more recent phenomenon. Why? because it was hard to do (until recently) and there was not the demand. The diamond chair was reasonably popular, but not a blockbuster seller or an instant icon. Knoll does now, and always has put labels on the pads and cushions. Why they don't put their name on the fame now? Beats the hell out of me. Fastfwd, look closely at the detail shots. I see globs at each weld junction, not justthe outs ... | |||||

| Follow up question... Does it happen to be battery powered? I ask because, as I recall, the 2287 or "Ring Around" Clock was offered battery-operated at about the same time; and the 2293 -- sometimes called the "Spike diamond" -- was not offered with a battery option. It could have been a special order; and the only battery option they had available was the 2287 works. | |||||

| I have the Tribeca bedding from RL But,oddly enough,it's really sedate, appearing more like a repeating pattern of Navajo diamond medallions in a range of grays and black.Interestingly enough,I would think the "Tribeca" nomenclature would be appropriate for a more vibrant and offbeat design. | |||||
