| Thanks Straylight Thanks for your feedback. I've seen the set in the center picture recently attributed to Russel Wright, incorrectly obviously. Maybe we need a Russel Wright/Leslie diamond bird dog much like you in your accomplishments with McCobb. Thanks again. Here is a site with some additional info on Leslie diamond I have discovered recently. http://www.sllab.net/arslonga/designers/lesliediamond.html | |||||

| You might want to redo the title to reflect the subject, like "Russel Wright Vs Leslie diamond" or there abouts. That way, those who know or are interested can find it more easily or be drawn to your question. | |||||

| I would look at works by Hugh Acton and Kurt Thut. Both did that double bar thing, Acton doing quite a few pieces in this manner. Sadly, the internet is largely populated by images of his suspended beam bench and little else. having a second glance at your pics, what are those little diamond thingys? | |||||

| It's true Knowledge is your best ally. I have walked into dozens of shops where there are gorgeous vintage pieces up for grabs for pennies. To avoid the appearance of bragging these are a few of the designs I did NOT buy (mostly because I ran out of space) 1960s 3 Leg Ant Chair - tagged for $50 as "retro chair" 2 McCobb Iron & bentwood chairs - $100/pair 2 Ib Kofod Larsen shell lounges - $60 each (kicking myself for passing on those!) 6 Moller 56 & 75 chairs in teak - $100 each 2 McCobb Spindle back chairs - $35 each Knoll 4 space credenza for $400 Bertoia ... | |||||

| reply further, most of the very modern pieces were from the Modern Mates line, a collection of mix and match items, many (if not all?) designed by Leslie diamond, and which, I believe, was launched in 1947. the items you've posted look much earlier to me, more like the 1930s, but I'm not positive. | |||||

| Glad you asked -- #3 Jonathan Ive isn't a genius. I mean, he IS, but that's not why everyone loves the iPod and iPhone. Think back to what MP3 players looked like before the iPod: Mostly, they looked like portable radios, cassette players, pagers, digital clocks -- ordinary gizmos that you already knew and understood. Take the diamond Rio pictured below. The case was made of the same cheap black textured plastic as a Motorola pager; from 20 yards away, anyone would instantly recognize it as some sort of consumer-electronics gadget. And if you owned a Walkm ... | |||||

| Remove the pad... Remove the pad and check the wires. I know that a lot of the diamond Chair reproductions have the seat wires sandwiched between 2 wire rims (or whatever you want to call them). The seat wires are also beveled and and the edges smooth where they connect to the rim - unlike copies, in which the seat wires are flat at the edges. I am assuming that the bird chair would be similar in these ways. I will say that yours appears to be a more recent model, as the vintage Bird Chairs do not have flat chrome disks on either side of the shock mount. Tha ... | |||||

| Thanks for the feedback. I... Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping to find a diamond in the rough. It obviously isn't very refined. I can however envision it cleaned up, bins rearranged possibly connected to make three columns? I think you may be right about the slide bolt. That would be unfortunate. I assumed the door dropped down to become a desk? In the first picture, you can see two drawers with the black stripe running along the top of each drawer. Drawers are obviously a base position. It is possible the last time it was put together, someone put a ba ... | |||||

| That's a nice set, Heath. And a really good price. If you're tempted to also buy the Global sharpening stone, or the ceramic or diamond steel, I hope you'll at least look at the EdgePro Apex first. It's the finest sharpening tool I've ever used, and I've used them all -- the Global stones and both steels, the MinoSharp rollers, the Spyderco Sharpmaker, etc. Ben Dale, the designer of the Apex, really knows what he's doing. http://www.edgeproinc.com | |||||

| I am resuscitating my own old... I am resuscitating my own old thread here, and sorry for delving in minutiae, but I found this interesting (and I may very well be the only one who does). As I wrote above, Knoll did some research for me on my odd size -- 38" x 27" -- coffee table and told me it was authentic but they had no record of that size and said it was probably a custom order. Well this week on Ebay I saw a Knoll table in the exact same size as mine, 38" x 27" x 17". The seller thinks his has a walnut top. I wrote to the guy who is selling it askin ... | |||||

| Hmmm I really like the design of the authentic legs, although I do get where you're coming from about the supports. The side chair is by far his most seamless design visually I think. But I would vote for the diamond as his best overall. | |||||

| Someone should let him know ... that Wright did NOT sell the small diamond chair for 10K. It was included in an auction until they realized the error and pulled the lot. That is why there is no number for a result and why it does not come up if you search "Bertoia prototype" on their site. He also lifted his description straight from the Wright catalog copy he linked to. Classy. | |||||
