So you know that dick Wickman crafted this chair out of tiger maple. Likely a one off and called it the Zephyr You also know the year of manufacture:1985. Through google you know it was made in Wisconsin. That's a crap load of info. 10x more than the typical ID post on the forum. What else would you like to know?
Dick Wickman was a mysterious | 2 Relevance | 10 years ago | cdsilva | General discussion
Dick Wickman was a mysterious character. He went off to the Korean war and came back a different man. After trying out his talents as a fur coat salesman, he latched onto a small but scrappy advertising firm in New York, where his charm, wit, and striking good looks helped him rise quickly to the top, and garner himself plenty of tail. He did have many demons to face in his personal life, but last I checked, he seems to have finally found peace at the end . . .as well as a Coke.

There might be one disadvantage | 2 Relevance | 16 years ago | koen | General discussion
There might be one disadvantage to lengthy posts. They may contain so much material for discussion that it becomes difficult to react. Either one chooses to answer one or two points, giving the unwanted impression that the others are less important, or one has to answer them all, which probably takes hours and redirects the discussion in numerous directions. This being said, I think that your choice of historical reference is not very adequate. It certainly makes the point in a lapidary fashion, but in using recent history that is mostly interpreted in blac ...

Lounge Chairs featured on 1970 Dick Cavett special filmed in London | 2 Relevance | 3 years ago | JosephA | Identification
Can anyone identify the designer and manufacturer of the leather swivel lounge chairs featured on a special episode of the dick Cavett show filmed in London in roughly 1970 or 1971? In this episode, Cavett and all of this guests (Roger Moore, Enoch Powell, & Jonathan Miller) are seated in this mystery chair. The leather swivel lounge chairs featured in this episode are different from the lounge chairs featured on Cavett's normal US program, which featured Eames Executive "Time Life" chairs. It remains very difficult for many to grasp evolution... | 2 Relevance | 17 years ago | dcwilson | General discussion
It remains very difficult for many to grasp evolution... Human beings and the universe itself are evolving. Evolution is not preordained in how it will go. There is NO ultimately correct way of doing things, because life keeps evolving; this is the hardest idea for persons accept with any profundity. Even the idea of evolution itself is neither perfect, nor complete. We are constantly being borne into a new world. This world has many things that do not change, but it has many others that do change. Hence, there can be no ultimately correct way of designing, ...
Using color...you risk being disappointed if you don't do... | 2 Relevance | 17 years ago | Olive | General discussion
Using color...you risk being disappointed if you don't do your homework I have always been of the opinion that your space itself should dictate your color selection process. The light coming in a room affects the color in the room as does neighboring rooms, the flooring and trim work and the furnishings themselves. Saying 'just paint it neutral' or 'paint it white' are overly simplified answers that can lead you to making choices that you end up not liking one little bit. To make a selection that you will be happy with follow the methodology of a color speci ...
The Distance Between Designer and Person Designed For Pt 7 | 2 Relevance | 18 years ago | dcwilson | General discussion
The distance Between Designer and Person Designed For Pt 7 The "designer" is necessarily going to become specialized in "design" of goods and, as with most specialists, the incremental improvements in gained by specialization are going to come with incremental (or sometimes total) losses of insight into related activities necessary to bringing the product to profitable satisfaction of consumer needs. Designers are going to become more about design, which they did early in the century as they became divorced from other parts of the product process. And then, ...
General consensus dictates | 2 Relevance | 10 years ago | tktoo | General discussion
General consensus dictates keeping the original frame on the piece whenever possible. "Artist's intent" and all that. In this case, I don't think there's any question that the frame is original to the picture. And, I think, stylistically, it works well with both the painting and your decorating (and maybe even with your slacks).

poor diction | 2 Relevance | 18 years ago | Modern Love | General discussion
poor diction oh geez, I just read my first post and I just butchered a sentence (sorry, I'm a little drunk). It should read: The chair was winning universal acclaim, but all the while Harry's contribution to the design was never acknowleged. Harry grew so upset over it, he quit the Eames Office.... http://www.designaddict.com/design_addict/forums/index.cfm/fuseaction/th... |
