| A less invasive solution, for a single stem, might be a small-diameter test tube secured at the lower end with a dab of wax or double-sided tape. | |||||

| If anyone has the really... If anyone has the really early T shaped pulls... Let me know. I would like to know the real diameter of the main post and the T. I would also like to know the overall depth and width. I would purchase some if I could just find one or more. By the way, the brass ones are really brass plated. The rings are the pretty ones, and I think there are two different inside diameters. thanks | |||||

| ... the best way to remedy this problem is quite simple. Drill a small hole where the tack would be nailed, something like 2x the diameter of the tack. Insert a dowel, with space allowed for expansion once the tack nail has been hammered in. Some glue could be applied for additional hold. Once this has been done, the integrity of the wood frame remains intact. As I'm now discovering, my Risom chair is riddled with holes from staples & nails...each new hole weakens the respective area and prone to cracking/breaking. The dowel approach allows for infinite n ... | |||||

| ... store. Do you have a source for black Danish paper cord? I've never seen any. If you do decide to try weaving this seat, get the Caner's Handbook (sold by Frank's Cane & Rush supply--i think it has a longer name but I'm too lazy to go look it up). The weaving involves doing sort of a double figure 8 around each corner, working from the outside to the center. It's really, really easy to skip one part of the figure eights and end up going back the other way for a few turns before you realize it doesn't look quite right. And it can look deceptively right w ... | |||||

| ... is the story of Henry Klein's invention of re-enforced foamed polystyrene. Henry Klein was a Norwegian student of Finn Juhl. At the time he graduated from Frederiksberg technical school, early 50ties, Finn Juhl was a quite vocal advocate for the use of plastics in furniture. Back in Kristiansand the young interior designer started to experiment with foamed Polystyrene or Styrofoam. He found some help at the Grenax Plastic Company where he worked with Rolf Torjussen. They ended up patenting a re-enforced version of the now well-known Styrofoam. The foam is p ... | |||||
| Rug vs. Coffee Table | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | Riki | General discussion | |
| Rug vs. Coffee Table Here's my dilemma. My diamond & Baratta coffee table is huuuge (72 inch diameter) and I love how it looks on a white Flokati rug but I can't find those rugs much bigger than what I've already got, which is like 7 ft. x 9 ft. or so. So, I'm still searching for a giant Flokati that's more in proportion to the table. When I do find one, I'm sure that I will then complain that it is covering up too much of the beautiful parquet floors, but that will be a problem for another day. | |||||

| What do you all think | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | Riki | General discussion | |
| What do you all think about this lacquer situation? The movers damaged my diamond and Baratta table that has a high lacquer marine blue finish. The piece that they "tweaked" is still attached, but just barely. The insurance company sent out an appraiser who has recommended a PIANO refinisher. Do you think he/she will be the appropriate person to fix it? I will try to take a clear picture of the damaged chip. One more thing, in case you think I am being too anal, this table weighs about 800 lbs (the round glass alone is 62" in diameter). I just know tha ... | |||||

| ... They are slightly rounded. However, Modernica has been known to change their base design (e.g. low rod base, for sure). Squared-off end is easier to fabricate. Under the cap nut there is a small black spacer which is also plastic. This appears to be the case with the ones in the listing as well. I haven't seen the original Herman Miller glides so I don't know if both spacers were used or just the larger one. For grins, I just broke out the micrometer: Reproduction base: ~9.8 mm diameter Vitra re-issue base: ~8.8 mm Herman Miller base: ~7.8 mm So I was ... | |||||

| Fiction Bertoia left the Eames Office in 46, immediately after the debut of the plywood chairs. The prototypes of the Eames' wire chairs show entirely different manners of creating a grid than Bertoia's chairs. EamesDesign states: "The possibility of making a wire chair was first considered at the time the Office was refining the fiberglass chairs" - 1949 So, why would a chair looking remarkably like the finished version of the Eames chair end up on a base which looks remarkably like the finished version of the Bertoia chair, when both designers worked sep ... | |||||
