| Yes, incised marks under one arm | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | Spanky | General discussion | |
| Yes, incised marks under one arm and they are not tiny marks. But I don't think anyone has copied this chair, have they? I own one so it's on my radar and I've never seen any copies. I would just make sure that the seat is woven with the bigger diameter paper cord. There should be three strands through the slots in front of the spokes in the back. Narrower paper cord is way more widely used in other chairs and you might find a J16 rewoven with the narrower stuff (like mine, which I have to redo someday). Below is a detail of the seat. You just make out ... | |||||
| Different metals? | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | SX-70 | General discussion | |
| Different metals? Is it possible that they used different metals/finish on the tube and base? Could the tube be steel with heavily oxidized zinc plating? I can't imagine that part being damaged or replaced. Edit: That piece clearly isn't the right diameter though is it. Found an old one (see link). Seems like there is a difference between the aluminum base and the shaft. http://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/tables/end-tables/george-nelson-herman-... | |||||
| Spanky, your bronze powders | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | tktoo | General discussion | |
| Spanky, your bronze powders may be just that, bronze powder. Or, more specifically, various alloys ground to fine texture. We used them at a museum where I worked to make temporary cosmetic touch-ups to chipped gilded picture frames on exhibit. The vials were about 3/4" diameter X 3" long. Typically, these are simply dry powdered metal and require mixing with a binder and appropriate solvent to make a paint. Like brass and bronze, though, they tend to turn a darker brown over time as they oxidize. | |||||

| Images of Sylvia Reid lamp? Hi, I hope these pics give an idea of the lamp. These appear to be the same design as the Sylvia Reid interplay light fitting, but the bulb housing is different to others I have seen for sale in the U.K. Shade is approximately 24cms tall and 12.5cms in diameter. Please note that the images I have attached were produced by the seller. Many thanks, Tick | |||||

Basically because I needed to reduce the width, depths and heights of cabinets by 25% to make a 3 columns unit fit on my wall, but keeping other original measurements such as upright and brackets width and shelf height so the whole thing won?t break into pieces within a few weeks I?ve been gathering a lot of measurements, some seen on flee markets, some guessed from pictures. I don?t know if the thread is still active, but I would need : - the exact angle of the display shelf brackets. - the distance between the top ... | |||||

| The restorer is going to... The restorer is going to repair the crack with glue. He assumed that someone tried to push the table but it got caught in the carpet depression and caused the break.. The end grain of the wood runs at a 45 degree \\\\ along the diameter of the table. He is slightly concerned if he tries to remove the reinforcement blocks from the inside on the table he might split more wood along the grain. This depends on the strength of the original glue. If removing the reinforcing blocks ends up an easy task. He is going to take the table ... | |||||

| Thanks for the info. I was... Thanks for the info. I was wondering if the tulip bases were all the same diameter, but they are not. I just found a beat up arm chair version, that I was going to use for a base. It has the larger base, and the armless tulip of yours is slightly smaller. I have the smaller measurement from the swivel stool at 13.5 inch diameter. So apparently there are 3 sizes of tulip bases. arm chair 17 inches dia, x 13.5 tall, with BR50 cast marking on later ones armless chair 15.5 inches dia, BR51 cast marking on later ones swivel stool 13 ... | |||||

| Hi Would you mind... Hi Would you mind measuring the diameter of the base, where it sits on the floor? I think the later versions are cast with BR50, on the 17 inch diameter arm shell type bases, and BR51 on the smaller, 13.5 inch diameter, armless tulip versions. I agree this should be the early version with the alcoa name cast into the base. | |||||

| ... legs are still in place. Impossible ? Yes. Therefore, the solution is to introduce long screws through the free face of the corner block into the leg. Do one at top and one at the bottom of the block, and have them penetrate 2/3 of the leg diameter (at least). Amateur advice is quite troubling, at times . . . ! | |||||

| planer and sander worked best My cabinet guy ran my tops through a planer and then sanded then to remove the old Formica on my 36" diameter Knoll tops. He tried to use solvents and a flat edge scraper to remove just the old Formica but he ended up causing damage to the plywood substrate and destroyed one top. Yes, when he sanded them he gummed up the sanding belt but it really was the only way to efficiently remove the old Formica. If your plywood edge is destroyed you may just want the cabinet guy to reproduce the top by using your old one as a template. ... | |||||

| Solution Figured something out. I was at Target and was looking for salvageable products and came across an 8' white three prong extension cord. The brand is "Woods" and it's actually called a garden cable or something to that extent. The cable rating is 16/3 SJT but the diameter looked about right and it only cost ~$6. Got it home and after a short bit of work I have my pendant hanging from the desired height. The color isn't the soft cream color of the original, but I don't think I would have been able to find that color anywhere. Very happy with the outco ... | |||||
