| Assuming a colored | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | SDR | General discussion | |
| Assuming a colored (painted) finish, the plywood should be sanded with 120 grit paper, spackled as needed to fill imperfections, sanded to 150 grit, and coated with a primer appropriate for the selected color coat following manufacturer's directions. Two coats of primer and two of color coat, with orbital and hand sanding between coats to a grit of 220, followed by a carefully applied final coat of satin or gloss paint, should yield the desired result. Paint should not be expected to fill imperfections or even to smooth a coarse surface, so the final coat ... | |||||

| eames head or anyone that... eames head or anyone that owns a ltr or elliptical table, can you If willing, post diameter dimensions for the wire base? I used .25 rod as that is what scraps we had but since I am ordering the supplies for the ellipcal I can do correct diameters. The reason for the less lime on the next attempt is I went ahead and made plywood welding and bending jigS and templateS which would help. Lasercutters are so fun The reason it doesn't have a chamfer is that I didn't have correct degree router bit. I have ordered it and will be doing s ... | |||||

| ... real eye catchers. Would love that first little macintosh computer with the tiny screen too. I do have something I purchased from the early 80s: a round, black rubber edged 36" diameter mirror. Just can't let it go! I am embarrassed to admit that I got it at "Z" Gallery here in the USA. The store was so different then. Everything in it was black and white. Lots of skinny black metal. Now its anything goes, and everything is way to shiny. | |||||

| ... also shop for cardboard taxidermy heads and globes. Just saying.) The two desks aren't as objectionable as that little orange-ish chest on the hairpin legs, or---horrors---the low dresser on the hairpin legs. That looks like a vintage piece that was stripped of its base and forced to stand on hairpin legs. Those things have some flex to them, maybe depending on the diameter of metal used, I dunno---but I see that thing bouncing a tiny bit when you open and close the drawers. Or if someone like Aunt Mark stuffed too many ties in it, maybe. That desk that ... | |||||
| I read this piece | 1 Relevance | 13 years ago | SDR | General discussion | |
| ... I think, and worth more rather than less compared to a manufactured piece. It's not to my taste but I don't find it ugly at all. Perhaps the most intriguing part is the central post, which appears to be wood but could hardly be large enough in diameter to be hollowed for the cord. What gives ? Is it a brass tube which has been finished to match the wood ? I agree that the plastic lamp-socket and switch may be original. In any event any standard socket could be fitted. Enjoy ! | |||||

| Maybe I'm confused, Josh. Why can't you just pull one out and measure the post? Or do you mean the ball diameter? | |||||

| More pics + info Thanks for your reply. I've just posted more pics of the stemware. There are 1-2 teeny bubbles in some of the spheres that are part of the stems/bases. Water Goblet: Height: 6 5/8" Outer diameter at Top: 3 1/16" diameter of Base: 2 15/16" Weight: 7 1/2 Oz. | Absolutely not France and Søn In addition to all the points mention by Pegboard against this being France and Søn (or F&S masquerading as John Stuart), which already had me persuaded, I can add two items: -a France and Søn medallion's diameter is 1 1/16 inch. -the socket is deeper and the glue looks like hot glue i.e. white and plastic-like (I have a F&S piece missing the medallion) | |||||

| ... some better shots. The diameter of the shade is 50cm and the wooden ceiling cone conceals a neat pulley system whereby the height of the lamp can be adjusted. Not entirely sure what the wood is and the shade material is probably linen. The pegs can be pulled out to (presumably) facilitate removal of the "handle" and changing of the bulb. I understand Temde was a Swiss/German company that went out of business in the 80's; not sure of the exact date for this lamp but I am thinking late 60's/early 70's. If anyone has any more info about this light I would be v ... | |||||

| . Perhaps i was not clear Stephen, though you know me better than that, ; ) I used the cheap dowels for light duty keys and such. They fit snug whatever the diameter. It is standard though. I am off on travels and not home... It is unusual for these dowels to weaken unless they were in a damp climate or not tapped into the uprights properly. It is a system that works very well. No mater the vintage age of them. A replacement dowel of a harder wood, and furniture dowels are made for such, would be a better replacement... At such an angle that they are constru ... | |||||
