| ... it I knew I would have to make a jig to drill a hole straight down into the leg about 1 inch so that a new dowel could be inserted. I know better than to consider trying to drill something like this freehand, so I knew I would have to make a jig in order to keep the drill bit aligned. I ended up using PVC pipe, PVC pipe fittings, and a length of brass tubing that had an inside diameter of exactly 1/2", which is the size of the dowel/drill bit used. To make all of the pipes fit together, telescope style, I wrapped them with masking tape to create bushings ... | |||||

| Are you totally sure it's an ... Are you totally sure it's an ashtray? I thought it might be too at first but as I look at it more I don't really think it is. First of all the shape is too kitcheny to me and second it's quite big and deep to be a ashtray, 7" diameter and over 3" tall. Ashtrays are almost quite shallow and have a tray/dish form, not a bowl form like this. Also I googled and found it Bitossi did quite a few ashtrays and none looked like this. I could be wrong but I just don't think it's an ashtray. Now maybe it's a cigar tray/bowl? I'm still l ... | |||||

| Search the web for white... Search the web for white rubber wheel casters....you should be able to find something very similar. If the wheels can come off the caster brackets, you can then just swap out the wheels. Then its just a matter of finding the correct diameter. | |||||

| I have some pre-1971 and... I have some pre-1971 and post 1971 Møller chairs and neither seems to have the nail hole indicative of a glide. The post 1971 ones do have round ~3/8" diameter circular indent on the feet bottoms on the front feet only. (I've never seen a chair glide that would punch a pattern like that). I would just pick whichever kind of glide I like best. | |||||

| another real or fake question yesterday i found this Paolo Piva ? Alanda coffee table. The measures looks good 120cm x 120cm x 26cm (25,7cm) , the glass is 12mm, roundet in the edge with a little chamfer and green cast. The feeds are round steel, ca 1,5 cm diameter, with a smaller plastic slide. Looks good to me, but i`m not sure?...?? Thanks for thoughts! | |||||

| Looking good so far, tchp.... Looking good so far, tchp. did any of the pieces come from my parts chair, or will those go towards the other chair? For the interlocking dowel topic, I have some unattributed Danish rosewood dining chairs that also have this similar detail (although with three dowels per joint). I had always assumed it was merely a straightforward issue of portions of two dowels falling in the same 3D space due to how the rails meet the leg at 90 degrees. Since the dowels are the same diameter, once you drill through the first installed one, yo ... | |||||

| ... or nine inches in diameter. The dome had several dents. I pressed them out with a rounded piece of wood covered with several layers of fabric, against a concave surface also covered with cloth. Aluminum is the softest of the metals discussed here. Firm but cautious work, sometime using a hammer with the wooden "pestle," eased the dents out. I then mounted the dome on a disc on my dad's bench grinder, and recreated the brushed finish with sandpaper. The shaft of that lamp turned out to be made of heavy cardboard, covered with damaged veneer. I replaced th ... | |||||

| ... shell and the fabric only covers the top part. On the sides and back of the seat fabric is a casing through which is threaded a U-shaped rod of 1/8" diameter steel. It's about an inch smaller on sides and back than the curve of the seat. Its purpose is to hold the fabric snugly around the foam cushion. It's anchored by heavy thread drawn through the fabric at 5-6 points and then threaded through the entire styrofoam shell of the chair with a big needle and tied securely on the outside of the shell. The part I would/should/might change (someday) is that ... | |||||

| OK, found out a couple of... OK, found out a couple of things today. Had a strong magnet, and it did in fact stick to the base. But from another thread, it appears that early versions of the base were definitely cast iron. So I may be OK there. BUT... there are no markings on the bottom. There are what looks like raised letters or numbers, but they're very hard to read. I didn't think of measuring the height of the base, or weighing it until now. I included some pictures. The top is indeed 48" across, which probably negates it being original. It does ho ... | |||||

| I did a set of these a long time ago. I don't remember the exact diameter of the original cord, I just remember that when I went to order it, it wasn't available so I settled for a much smaller diameter cord. It was ok but I wouldn't do it now. I think 3/16" is about what the original was just from what I remember of the look of it. You might want a more accurate answer than that, though. (haha) Are there any detail shots on dibs where you could calculate the cord diameter? | |||||
