| Repair help - broken leg | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | danielmpoole | General discussion | |
| ... the female screw thread is lloose and the wood in the frame has also some minor splitting around the hole. I was thinking of cutting out a disc of wood the same diameter as the leg, then inserting a new disc the same size before re-threading the leg into a new hole. Is this a good idea, or will it be prone to breaking again? Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated | |||||
| Jens Risom Levelers | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | gjbl | General discussion | |
| Hi, 1st off - thanks to everyone who posts on this forum. I've learned a ton! And now to my question...I picked up a walnut Jens Risom Desk and Credenza on Craigslist for $300. They are in great condition, apart from some water rings. However, the desk is missing two of the levels. Does anyone have any idea where I might be able track a couple down? (I've tried ebay etc.) The levels are about 2.5" high / 2" in diameter. I've attached a couple pics. Any help would be greatly appreciated! | |||||

| ID help needed on fixture | 1 Relevance | 21 years ago | NULL NULL | Identification | |
| I have just been given this lovely fixture by my sister. It was purchased by her husband who just passed away, so she doesn't know much about it. Does anyone know who might have made it? I'm sure it was purchased in the 70's. It is made of carved wood with a black finish. The frame measures 15 w X 21 h. and the globe is about 10" diameter. It reminds me of a Laurel lamp. He had a couple other Laurel lamps but they were purchased earlier. I would appreciate any info. Thnx &.src=ph | |||||
| Need help identifying designer of this floor lamp | 1 Relevance | 21 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| Hi, does anyone know who the designer of this lamp is and the possible value. The shaft and base look like the same design as the Knoll Saarinen Tulip table bases. The lamp is 5' 5" in height. The base is 11" in diameter and the top of the shade is 10" in diameter. The lamp is metal. Inside the shade is a sticker marked "Made in SWITZERLAND". Under the base is the raised numbers "25952". Thank you. http://photos.yahoo.com/waterfront4me | |||||

| Such nice case goods . . . I'm building some store fixtures which the client wished to see on legs. I found these annular-brushed stainless steel-on-plastic legs at IKEA; they really look nice on the pieces. The shaft is about 1 inch in diameter. When the floor is cleared and cleaned, I'll post pics. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10267895/ | |||||
| Eames + Nucraft Unusual (Pre-production?) "Mutt" Table Part Deux! | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | J.J. | General discussion | |
| ... I have so far... 1) The base is exactly 27 1/2" inches across and it has no black enamel like the production aluminum group models and it even feels somehow unfinished. The height is 22 1/2," well above the 16"-17" standard I have seen everywhere else. Then I found something at the Eames Office. Check the associated Web Link at the bottom or copy this... http://www.eamesoffice.com/vintage/worksheet_detail.php?id=113 It appears it's this base (sans casting holes) but a coffee table version because of the height. The glides are something I've never seen eit ... | |||||

| ... the photos. I plan on getting a wool rug that will likely make the foot not visible at all, so the look isn't what I worry about. I just have never seen it done on furnitures but I am new to mid century furniture so if anyone can educate me on this it will be great. Would you remove the feet? 3. There is a very faint circular spot of lighter color smack in the middle of the coffee table, about 3 inches in diameter. You can sorta see it in one of the photos. For the most part it isn't visible but is there anything we can do to make it go away even more? The ... | |||||
| Herman Miller EA108 bases | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | tktoo | General discussion | |
| Herman Miller EA108 bases accept either casters or glides. Sometimes bushings or inserts are required depending on diameter of the recesses in the legs vs. posts on casters. I am not sure if this is also the case with Vitra production, but it should be an easy changeover if you have the correct parts. Perhaps Vitra or Graham Mancha can advise, but it's important to remember that it is a fixed-height chair and adding casters will raise the seat height. | |||||

| I know what you're talking about, but even taking that into consideration the bottom opening is about 1/2 the diameter of the Holmegaard lamp at its fullest part, whereas the other is way over half the diameter. But the Sweden sticker is the clincher. I've seen that sticker before. I think I had something with it years ago but sold it. For the record, I like your lamp just as much---maybe more---than the Holmegaard one. | |||||

| What Makes a Coffee Cup Functionalist, or Modern? | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | dcwilson | General discussion | |
| ... example of the modern,or perhaps the functionalist, form of a coffee cup. The cup is perfectly cylinderical, but for a small rim on the base. It is slightly taller in height than it is wide in diameter. It has a simple ovoid handle just right for index and middle fingers to slip through (something all too often missing in coffee cups). The thumb rests comfortably on the top of the handle, though the handle is not sculpted to receive the thumb. The handle is just thick enough, not too much. All in all, it is very serviceable, rationally designed coffee cup. ... | |||||

| ... I discovered that a previous owner had snapped the heads off a few of the screws. Instead of extracting the broken screws and repairing the holes, he chose to drill new holes next to the old ones and fill them with random drywall screws. I got a killer deal on the thing, so I'm not complaining too loudly, but still... Anyway, the only experience I have with a similar repair is from twenty years ago, when I spent a week helping a friend repair dozens of stripped screw holes in his boat. We drilled each hole to around twice its original diameter, pressed i ... | |||||
| Need help - Herman Miller shell with no stamp - age? | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | attygreen13 | General discussion | |
| hi - hoping someone on here can help me. i picked up 2 armshells at a garage sale the other day, both covered in black vinyl or leather. i was a bit disappointed when i got them home, however, because they do not bear any herman miller stamp on the bottom. because the vinyl/leather was splitting at all the seams, my husband removed the covers this morning, only to find a herman miller label attached to the inside of the upholstery. also, unlike my other upholstered shells, this one's foam and upholstery was attached to a fixed metal frame and not glued di ... | |||||
