| Woodies joinery help needed | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | glassartist | General discussion | |
| ... bench I have and am in the process of making the parts. My question is about joinery. All joints appear to be simple butt joints. I am planning to dowel the parts together. The components are either 2" or 3" wide and 1" thick and every joint is end grain to face grain. Is it better to use more smaller diameter dowels or fewer larger ones? Also, I have only seen dowel joints in a single row but have the thickness to do double rows. My idea is that a double or staggered row would prevent rocking of the joint. Opinions? Thanks | |||||

| Holiday Greetings to all DA's! How I wish I could finish my projects and start anew. I can't source a part to get these chairs out of the house. These lounges have sunken screws with a brass disc or tack covering the hole, which is apx 1 inch in diameter. There are a few missing, and I can't source them. I tried googling brass tacks and brass discs and the right piece is not coming up. Does anyone have a name for these thingamabobbers? Thank you. | |||||

| What of these Light Fixtures? | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | 4birds | General discussion | |
| I am wondering if anyone recognizes these light fixtures. This matching pair was in a 60's daylite ranch and pulled during a remodel. There are no markings on them, are made of a heavy plastic, and are approximately 3 feet in diameter. | |||||
| Old Fissler tea kettle | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | dcwilson | General discussion | |
| Looks to be 1960s vintage. Up-armored. Thick wall as bomb proof base. I've googled for images and don't find anything that looks like it. Slightly squatty, stainless steel kettle. Round, graduated diameter. Spout like on an old Hobbs. Black recessed handle in kettle lid. Nice looping handle with brushed steel on top and black plastic, or bake-alite surface underside for hand contact. Nice design. Simple. Plain. Solid. If anyone knows of a site to go to that has lots of pics of old german tea kettles, please post a link so I can go hunting for info on it. | |||||

| ... stripping the dark grey paint off the four star part of the leg to show the aluminium off better as its a bit dark for my liking at the moment. Also will this detract or have baring on the table, I just want to make it a little more conducive to my tastes but also want to be honest to its origin. The sizes are 30" or 760mm diameter and 16" or 405mm Height.Your comments would be appreciatedThanks Dave | |||||

| Early production Eames lounge cushion material and other details | 1 Relevance | 13 years ago | teakhound | General discussion | |
| Howdy y'all - Picked up this red Eames lounger recently, and it has some interesting features beyond its custom color: o cushions sourced from Burbank (not Michigan or Illinois). o handwritten yellow grease pen marks on inside of seat panels and inside of armrests; and o seat-back and seat-bottom cushions each retained with a single snap button (rather than two, which I think was standard for this clip style); o remnants of larger Herman Miller cloth labels on underside of chair and ottoman; o chair glides with smaller-diameter threaded studs; o push-on ottoman glides; o armrests are attached with three screws; and o slotted pan-head fasteners retaining all cushion clips (rather than the later Phillips countersunk screws). Any thoughts on what we have here? My gut tells me this is a very early example and possibly one assembled at the Eames Office (cushion supplier was ~22 miles from the Eames Office). But I've been wrong before and don't want to spew any nonsense. http://www.flickr.com/photos/45546711@N05/with/12930559125/ | |||||
| Large Enamel Bowl | 1 Relevance | 13 years ago | l1flafly | General discussion | |
| I recently picked up this large enamel metal bowl and I cant pin point a designer or company. It is all metal with a blue enamel interior. I don't particularly think its old because the enamel looks almost like a lacquer instead of enamel but I am not 100% sure. Anyone know who might have made this? Its rather large measuring 14" in diameter. | |||||
