Mystery #2 : Danish teak room divider / wall unit | 2 Relevance | 9 years ago | staceyneil | Identification
Very nicely made, nice case construction, finished all around. It's marked "Made in Denmark" but no other marks. I saw a 1st dibs dealer calling it Kurt Ostervig, but I'm 99.99% sure that it's not and that they are just guessing that because of the similar splayed-leg standards. Ostervig's are quite different, though. The fastener systems are different, too. Any thoughts? P.S. Leif, I took lots of detailed construction photos for you 🙂

Is America no longer the centre of capitalism? 1st dibs so what! | 2 Relevance | 18 years ago | apollo | General discussion
I am an antiques dealer and have four premises in the UK (Devon). The thing I love more than anything, about my business is that you stand or fall on your own judgment. I purchase 90% of stock privately, direct from the estate and sometimes at markets or other dealers. When you visit somebody who has a Fabricius chair and says he wants a $1000.00 you make a judgment. Get it wrong there is nobody to blame, get it right revel in your good fortune. I sell mainly to the trade, London, Bath, Cotswolds, etc. Often they sell the things I sell them for 2 or 3 ti ...

The pair of chairs on dibs are most certainly not Baughman. They were made by the Home Chair Company out of North or South Carolina. I've made fully marked examples in the past

1st dibs | 2 Relevance | 18 years ago | LRF | General discussion
Does any one look at 1st dibs? I look at the web site every week and love to look at the great furniture but am amazed at the crazy prices that these really sorry interior design stores think that they can charge . Example $2800 . for a pair of Karl Springer lamps that they more than likely got on ebay for $60.00 for the pair and more than likely are not really signed Karl Springer. I sold a very nice Valdermere Kagan table for 350. with the lucite legs to a great store for 350. ...
I used to work for a 1st Dibs | 2 Relevance | 9 years ago | AmidMadness | General discussion
I used to work for a 1st dibs dealer and did the online postings for his store. Here is what I can tell you . 1. 1stdibs dealers set their own prices and own all the inventory. There is no 1st dibs warehouse. Some dealers prices are outrageous and some are in the expected market range. Dealers with highly coveted pieces that are priced well tend to sell out quickly, so often when you look up items on 1stdibs, the dealers with available inventory tend to be at the higher end of the pricing range for the item/niche you are researching. 2. Based on the high e ...

did some digging.... | 2 Relevance | 11 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion
did some digging.... @ loft24 interesting investigating. I went to the swanky abode website and came across this blog http://blog.theswankyabode.com/?p=2864 Which states they are partners in this endeavor. So I guess its completely legit. Interesting. @ leif ericson i do agree with you on your statement in the rules of supply and demand but as it it sits the vintage sofas ive seen (outside 1st dibs) sell for far less than these "reproductions". so i guess my real question would be do you think that the vintage pieces will, if nothing else, raise to the pric ... |
