| Bertoia Slat Bench..Rare find or early knockoff/student work | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | Deaddred | Identification | |
| HeyJust found an old Bertoia looking weathered slat bench with rusty Y bases. It only holds 7 slats of oak(?!) instead of the usual 8 I use to find on my research. Also the width is up to 253cm with only 2 Y bases attached which seems unusual. The remaining measurements seem to fit the description of an original one.The Base is massiv chrome steel beneath the rust with remains of black paint, the knot, the proportions and the diameter of the wire look authentic too. Any Idea?....Thanks in Advance. | |||||
| Anyone recognise this table designer | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | peajay | General discussion | |
| I have a ceramic top table purchased in France and I would like to know the name of the designer. The table is 74cm diameter and is extremely heavy composite ceramic mounted on a steel box section three legged frame. There is a name engraved that I cannot distinguish but looks like BECKI followed by another letter or two. It is a striking looking table which has a white base material with embedded pieces of colored glass and ceramic in black deep red, clear and amber. | |||||

| ... real 'DIY', do it yourself, buying just the central part and made yourself the rest a little more to your taste, I would even consider the possibility of leave it as it is. Or as more real diY, if hands are still big, why not customize it making it smaller. I think is the one that posted once by MarkTulip, commente d by SDR. In the once you posted it's seems the mechanism is back, in the other side of the wood (?). In this one is inthe front. The smaller they have is diam. 38cm Here is the link with the photo: http://www.presenttime.com/index.php?id=57&gr ... | |||||

| Hi Robin | 1 Relevance | 20 years ago | koen | General discussion | |
| Hi Robin I fully understand your proposal. The only reason why I did not suggest to change the diameter of the rods at the point of insertion is that we are still talking about 8mm diam. rods. In that small a diameter it is impossible to cast a straight rod unless it has the same diameter everywhere and can be cast solid. The drying process of a thick section like 8mm would not be without problems at the point where the diameter is reduced to say 5mm. from a production point of view I would prefer rods that are twice as large 16mm and cast them hollow. But i ... | |||||
| Don't get the paper cord | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | Spanky | General discussion | |
| Don't get the paper cord currently offered by Frank's. It is a thinner diamater, which means less paper, which means not as durable. They are supposedly going to go back to better quality cord but for now I would buy from The Caning Shop in Berkely, CA. It costs more but it will last longer and you're only doing a few chairs anyway. If you had a set of 8 or 10, then the difference would really add up, but for just two or three...not really worth it in my opinion. And yes, Frank's L-nails are cut staples. Get the real thing from The Caning Shop as I reco ... | |||||
| Yes, the kind of shaper | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | SDR | General discussion | |
| Yes, the kind of shaper cutter you mention might have been employed to to make the production Noguchi table "more Noguchi-like." (Have you seen one of those cutters in use ? They're maybe four to six inches in diamater -- kind of scary !) Googling "Noguchi table" shows repeated examples of the table, many of them presumably knock-offs; the thickness and even the shape of the parts varies considerably. I assume it's getting harder and harder for the layman/dealer to determine authentic from bogus. Labeling wouldn't be as reliable as precise sizing and shap ... | |||||

| Kvadrat Remix 2 fabric for a sofa | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| Hello, I'm considering buying a sofa equipped with kvadrat fabric. I've not yet had samples, but I'm looking for anyone who would already have used/tested/seen furniture using Remix2 fabric. Compared to Hallingdal, it seems thinner, with fibers of a smaller diameter, that's what I find interesting (less scratchy maybe ? more resilient to a cat trying to hold on it (I hope)...), maybe more comfortable too. but it's hard to tell from a picture - or a small sample at that. Thanks for any tip on this product ! Regards, Squalou | |||||
| Oh...um...I think I used a 2 | 1 Relevance | 11 years ago | Spanky | General discussion | |
| ... because it's wider. But I think i did need slightly more. I just used some that had been sitting around for a few years and I didn't keep a strict tally of how much went into it. In other news. I just looked at Frank's Cane & Rush and I see their prices went up a lot and they've got a bunch more diameters listed, including some that look like they might reflect heavier weight cord in the smaller diamer! I'll have to inquire. Also--WHITE cord. I saw this on (I think) Perkins' site the other day, too. Has anyone seen an actual chair woven with white cord ... | |||||

| Help me ID this Wirkkala chandelier with 6 lights. I took a look to photos on internet but I didn't find this model. The pentagon shaped ceiling base is made of metal sheet (painted in matt black) and measures 24 cm (side). Each tubular lamp holder is made of painted aluminium (diameter 5 cm, 3 different lengths: 10, 16, 26 cm). The tubular socket is different from the model published in the Idman catalogue (and also different from the new reeditions by Airam or Artek), as the bottom part of each cylinder has a small disc with 6 holes. I found a similar one, ... | |||||
