| ... 2 chairs) or common to all. If everybody's chair exhibits this same behavior then I'll put it down to my being too picky and will try to lower my expectations. But if it transpires that nobody else's does this, even after 2 years of everyday use, then I'll proceed towards making demands. As part of my discussion with Herman Miller I had to send them a photograph of the label under the seat base. I found myself apologizing to them for this being torn when it actually left the factory like this. If the factory doesn't have enough care about attention to d ... | |||||

| So I wanted to wrap this discussion up by sharing some insight I received from speaking to Herman Miller yesterday. The Eames Lounge Chair is not a piece of furniture; it's not really intended to be sat in and, if one does, it's not anticipated that it will be comfortable. It is first & foremost a piece of art. My wife purchased my Lounge Chair with the expectation that it would be an extremely comfortable place to sit while [it] looked amazing. As far as we're concerned it was not supposed to be an art installation. This surprised me because look o ... | |||||

| After off-and-on discussions for over a year, the seller of this Hans Olsen teak/cane rocking chair by Juul Kristensen made a more-than-fair price yesterday which I just could not turn down, despite the healthy backlog of project pieces currently residing in my basement. Turns out the seller is an occasional contributor on this forum, and lives only a 10-15 minute walk away. While the caning needs to be replaced (I'm thinking a good project for next winter with football games on in the background), the framing, upholstery, and loop springs are all in very go ... | |||||

| Soo many discussions on this subject. Start collecting images of the real thing. Get familiar so that when you come across one you can pounce. (the stem should be black enamel on the chair and stool) The book is nice to have. Eventually you will find one. Don't pounce too hard... ; ) http://www.amazon.com/Eames-Lounge-Chair-Modern-Design/dp/1858943027/ref... | |||||

| Lucifer, I red already those discussions, very interesting, indeed. Lucifer, I red already those copy/original discussions, very interesting, indeed. But that is not what I'm talking about. I suggested that, for being sure that you have some valuable object, you should buy some limited edition, or designer-signed, or hand-made object, not an industrial object made by thousands! This EG table, even if produced by agreed manufacturer, won't probably have its value increased with time. It's my supposition, but I'm not a professional in that branch. I'm happy to ... | |||||

| I find discussions of what makes a profession... have a large proportion of one kind of person or another irrelevant. If you're good, you can make it in most fields eve if you're from Mars, or the majority is from Jupiter. If you're average, expect some tough sledding in a field you're a minority in, or else go into a field where you're part of the majority and be satisfied with playing the percentages. Jade, design some beautiful furniture that sells like hotcakes and makes you so rich that some envious small-minded person full of prejudices says you're onl ... | |||||

| I generally regard animal figurines with disdain. Then I remembered that I'm a big, fat, cat-figurine-owning hypocrite! Not one, not two, not three, but FOUR (dusty) cat figurines have I. (But, please-- I beseech you to keep all information about my collection within the strictest confidence! Once you're identified as a collector of cat figurines, all hell breaks loose and people start giving them to you as Christmas gifts-- "I saw this, and thought of YOU".) | |||||

| The above is lovely but, utterly disfunctional! | 2 Relevance | 19 years ago | Olive | General discussion | |
| The above is lovely but, utterly disfunctional! I keep my books in a closed case, organized by title alphabetically...that way I don't have to look at them but I can easily find what I'm looking for! And the pretty coffee table books have theor own display shelf elsewhere...I don't enjoy the visual chaos of the sizes and colors. My dad keeps his books aligned on the shelves all flush with the front edge regardless of size, that does seem to help some but the feeling I get is still one of chaos. I love books but I do hate looking at them | |||||
