| I visted my little childhood village the other day, where a bastard German supermarket company called Aldi (which specialises in selling crap quality at a discount price) has purchased an entire block of little cottages. It then proceded to bulldoze them over to make way for one of its ghastly stores. The worst thing however was that every single tree - giant apple gums included - was felled to make way for this consumerist nightmare. It got me thinking about writing a feature article about supermarket companies and how they shirk their global responsibility ... | |||||

| Very happy with a discount... | 2 Relevance | 12 years ago | cdsilva | General discussion | |
| Very happy with a discount... Very happy with a discount Sunday estate sale pickup of a Johannes Andersen CFC Silkeborg rosewood tea cart. It's been a good month for rosewood carts, as I picked up a Hundevad three-tier one a few weeks ago. This one is in excellent condition, and after a quick clean, oil, and wax, has some of the most stunning rosewood grain pattern that I've seen. | |||||
| Don't discount brass caps... | 2 Relevance | 15 years ago | parafo | General discussion | |
| Don't discount brass caps... Don't discount brass caps entirely as lot of Dunbar + Probber pieces have brass caps. Its the quality of the brass and the capping that's important -- when you see them in person the quality and thickness of the brass on designer pieces is far above the OP's table. They're also usually on square legs, not round. As a probably more basic rule -- if it has wood-grain formica, walk away. | |||||

| ANYONE can get a 30-40% discount... The Herman Miller price book is linked below; if you download it, you'll see that the list price for a 2-seat Eames Sofa in standard Herman Miller black leather is $8251+1271=$9522. Now visit any authorized online Herman Miller dealer (e.g., my favorite, highbrowfurniture.com). Their price for the 2-seat Eames Sofa in Herman Miller black leather is $6499 (with no sales tax and free shipping within the US). That's a 31% discount. If you can wait for the Herman Miller sale in June, the price will be discounted by either 10 ... | |||||

| still discounting | 2 Relevance | 20 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| still discounting They are still offering a discount, but now at 10% for first time buyers to a max of $300. Essentially the total cost would be about $2000 less for the bed from europebynet compared to what I could get from a showroom here in the US. However I have never had any items imported without them being damaged/destroyed by our friendly US customs. I had a glass top broken 3X as essentially customs would rip the packaging to check the item (and even one time someone decided to walk on it). Thx for the opinion on europebynet | |||||
| 70% discount really good, but.. | 2 Relevance | 20 years ago | vivienne | General discussion | |
| 70% discount really good, but.. I sense that you are trying to persuade yourself into buying it? if you really liked it you would have bought it straight away (i would have done so if i liked it..which i dont), forget the discount and ask yourself if you really would have bought it at full retail..its only a good deal if you would have. If you do i hope you enjoy it anyway. | |||||

| 58% discount in US compared to Denmark | 2 Relevance | 21 years ago | Sofus | General discussion | |
| 58% discount in US compared to Denmark I have just acquired 2 Eames Lounge chairs (HM) in US at 2,700 USD each. The Danish price is 8,800 USD. I managed to get them to Denmark and pay the Danish VAT (25%) resulting in a price of 3,700 USD per chair. Great savings.. | |||||

| The only people who got any discounts | 2 Relevance | 17 years ago | barrympls | General discussion | |
| The only people who got any discounts from companies like Knoll or Herman Miller back in the 1960's were possibly large whole building or whole floor installations. If you were in the 'know' and wanted a knoll table or chair for your home back then, you paid the regular price....just like today...and I doubt if they had bi-annual sales. | |||||

| ... the foam with a tool like an electric kitchen knife or something. I do not mean to discourage you but I can tell you from experience that this is an advanced level upholstery project. If it were a boxy Florence Knoll piece, some can probably do it with their eyes closed. You can use the original upholstery as a pattern for making the new ones & I don't know if your chairs are older, then fabric was attached using small upholstery nails. I have not seen what is used on the current/new versions but that shell used for the arm/back piece is really though & ... | |||||
