| Modern is better, I respectfully disagree In your interpretation that the dealer had done nothing wrong. Policies like rules and laws have elastic parameters. As in law it is wrong to murder someone however, even though he was later proven "responsible" for the "deaths" of his wife and her friend, Mr. OJ Simpson still walks free. I know it is an extreme example so lets go to the other extreme. It is illegal to park in a posted no parking zone. If I am ticketed and go to court and can demonstrate a compelling reason for my car being in a no parking zone ( i.e ... | |||||

| i respectfully disagree Obviously everyone needs to gauge the value of their own time to pursue people that have done them wrong. modernisbetter, i would have to disagree with some of your last post. Regardless of written store policy, an exception was made to accommodate goodlines, and the store should be expected to live up to that exception. The unscrupulous dealer was not "well within legal and moral rights" to remove the sold sign and purchase the sofa for himself, especially knowing that a special exception had been arranged. In fact, he may have even ... | |||||
| May I disagree? | 2 Relevance | 20 years ago | koen | General discussion | |
| May I disagree? This is without any doubt a very nice desk...although nobody designed as well for flat steel as Poul Kjaerholm...but it belongs to a certain time, in this case late 50ties. So I am not convinced that it is "about time" to re-introduce it. Strength in design is to be able to translate the culture, preferences and the priorities of a certain period.Bodil Kjaer did it well for and in 1959. The relevance in 2006 is what? other than not having enough imagination to do it as well but within the culture, the technologies and preferences of 2006. | |||||

| I have to politely disagree. ... I have to politely disagree. I pesonally think the Eames stool would look good next to anything (even a dead body) ... I would say a pile of books high enough to use as a table would be quite a bit of clutter. Not to mention it would make the books hard to use. You would have to repile everytime you wanted to read one! azure: "Platners wire table in bronze finish" I think that table could give me real happiness ... especially in bronze. | |||||

| I firmly disagree I live with two lovelies that neither savage, nor destroy. They quite definitely prefer their corrugated cardboard scratching thingie to my furniture (basting it in catnip helps). Furniture is furniture; cats are a balm to the soul. Never will I prefer and object to a cat. Dogs I can do without; drooling, needy, smelly beasts that they are. But, there is nothing quite like the sound of a cat purring lazily into your ear as it nestles around your shoulders. I'd trade a thousand mint-condition nelson benches for one homely hedonistic cat. | |||||

| I disagree Where I am, Bose is a local company. I have friends who are engineers there and they really enjoy their jobs. Bose does not just market, they most certainly do develop, design and produce innovative new products. But, being married to one, I know how you audiophiles are. If a company is large and/or successful then they can't possibly be any good. Much better to buy from obscure companies that are committed to 'real'audio . Besides you'll look much cooler if you have something no one's ever heard of. Whitespike, it's still my opinion that if you w ... | |||||

| I must respectfully disagree I have seen a few postings where people claim the knockoffs are more comfortable than the originals. I just recently did a comparison and I have to say that the original chair is far more comfortable. The knockoffs I have sat in all seem to be a little wider through the arms, making it comfortable for me to only rest on one armrest at a time. Then again I'm fairly short, lol. I've heard many times that the knockoffs are more comfortable for the taller crowds. In regards to the tilt mechanism- I find this to be rather impeding ... | |||||

| I disagree with whitespike.... I disagree with whitespike. I stand against quality issue at Modernica. If you have a chance, go test the products at it's Soho store in NYC. Doors and drawers of ESU don't run smooth on tracks. Painting on panels are badly applied. Their configurations and colors are odd and random (probably depends on their own convinience). If anyone is up for more comments on other products, give me a hallo. By the way, has whitespike anything to do with White store( a mega/low end midcentury-design knock-off retail in Chinatown)? Is anti-e ... | |||||

| I do not disagree... with either Jaminriyad nor dcwilson, but the point I wanted to make is a different one. When I refer to "contribution" I expect something more than just catching up or even growing more important. I have no doubts about the fact that they have already good and somne excellent design capability, but that is not the point. What I am looking for is a typical Chinese contribution. What we have learned, I guess, from cultural exchanges over the past century is that specific cultures contribute to design and to culture in general on a selectiv ... | |||||

| I disagree... | 2 Relevance | 23 years ago | Olive | General discussion | |
| I disagree... Nature is actually a very good designer. If you believe in evolution that is. There are lots of protoypes and failed designs in the history of the earth. And indredible success stories of creatures that are so perfect for their envoironment or so adaptable to any environment that they thrive. It may be that what we think of as design can be defined as that which is driven by our active efforts. Conversely, what flora/fauna do is driven by the forces around them. But the evolution of nature is a type of design to my thinking. | |||||

| i disagree b Design is design. Whether it is the plastic bottle your milk comes in or a "molded polypropylene vase" (hey - actually the same!), the processes involved are the same. Don't get me wrong, I love great design. But you seem to be on the design-as-elitism side of the fence whereas I think good design should be for all. Its about things that work well in a space, function well and look good. Not about impressing someone with the label or the price tag. Why do we seem to have elevated some designers to rock-star status? | |||||
| I disagree with Barcelona | 2 Relevance | 22 years ago | Jakey G | General discussion | |
| I disagree with Barcelona I think the Barcelona chair is overated! 1) I don't think it's influenced so very much in chair design. Contrast this with, say, first moulded plywood efforts, moulded fibreglass, cantilevered, etc. Barcelona is definitely unique, but I don't see it as having had a mark on much since. 2) It's not particularly representative of Bauhaus either - where's the metal tubing? Why the rather conservative/traditional studded leather cushion? Chilling echoes of Chesterfield armchairs. 3) It's not that comfortable either - you sit at a bizarre ... | |||||
