| To discover or to reveal that is the question 🙂 | 2 Relevance | 21 years ago | dcwilson | General discussion | |
| To discover or to reveal that is the question 🙂 I agree with your observation in spirit. But, risking pedantry, this distinction between "reveal" and "discover" seems slippery conceptual terrain. Imho, reveal refers to finding something already extant. In contradistinction, discover refers to finding something, anything, for the first time, say, for one's self, or for the first time ever. It could be discovering how to invent or build something for the first time ever, or it could be discovering how someone else invented or built something for the first time ... | |||||
| HUMPILA Vintage Green Bubble Glass Dinnerware Questions | 2 Relevance | 2 years ago | Forest_K | General discussion | |
| ... 40pc in total (6 full settings + several extras in varying sizes) Thus far my research has only found settings of small plates and soup bowls. Only 1 was available in stock. The biggest mystery is that there isn’t even an image of the dinnerware bowls in the set never mind finding one for sale. Are examples of Humpila dinner ware glass that rare?. There are lots of examples of vases, ornate dishes, and glass art, from the maker. I appreciate any advice or expertise anyone might have on finding out more … | |||||
| Roseville Modern Stoneware and my dishwasher | 2 Relevance | 15 years ago | brbeard | General discussion | |
| I recently landed my dream set of dinnerware - Roseville Raymor. So, now I want to actually use it. Does anyone use this on a regular basis. Can you advise me on whether putting this is a dishwasher is fine? It's advertised as an oven-to-tabletop line, so I don't imagine the heat would be a problem. I just know that with dinnerware from this period, some is fine to wash and some gets ruined. I just don't want to get 5 years down the line, and realize that I destroyed my set by being lazy! I appreciate any input here 🙂 | |||||

| Melmac dinnerware | 2 Relevance | 19 years ago | barrympls | General discussion | |
| Prior to moving into my (new) house last May, I never had a dishwasher, and I have collected Melmac...whatever I could find inexpensively. I was originally told how bad it is to put any Melmac in the dishwasher. Well, I haven't found any problems with the everyday Melmac I have because much of it is not in mint condition. Into the dishwasher they go. I do have a set of nicely designed ironware (El Verde by Max Shonfeld) for company, but the melmac gets used everyday. I will post some examples later today. (By the way, other than my Russel Wright Residentia ... | |||||
| Zeisel & Melmac in the dishwasher? | 2 Relevance | 19 years ago | barrympls | General discussion | |
| I have a bunch of the Eva Zeisel "Tomorrow's Classic" dinnerware made by Hallcraft, as well as huge amount of Russel Wright "Residential" melmac dinnerware from both Northern and Home Decorators. When I moved into my (new) house with a dishwasher (never had one at the old house), I broke down and washed all of my Zeisel and Wright in the dishwasher without any apparent damage. (It was real NICE to see how clean the Zeisel got in the dishwasher!) I have dishwashed the melmac many times since, and even though my pieces are not in mint condition - scratches, e ... | |||||

| dinnerware fans are numerous... dinnerware fans are numerous and don't necessarily give a damn about modernism: their interest is partly about design, but partly collector obsessiveness.... imo, of course. imo. "obsessive" not necessarily a bad thing. some of my best friends, etc..... | |||||
| When the Hallcraft "Tomorrow's Classic" dinnerware | 2 Relevance | 18 years ago | barrympls | General discussion | |
| When the Hallcraft "Tomorrow's Classic" dinnerware by Eva Zeisel was being issued, Hall asked Zeisel to come up with patterns, in addition to the all-white. Although Zeisel did not actually design most of the patterns selected, she was not against the concept. She got her Pratt Institute students to design the patterns. Her philosophy was "When in doubt, buy white". It's interesting that the fantasy and a few other patterns are more collectable these days than the all-white. | |||||

| No, Dashes, the green dinnerware | 2 Relevance | 18 years ago | barrympls | General discussion | |
| No, Dashes, the green dinnerware is 'El Verde', casual ironstone from the kilms of MS, designed by Max Shonfeld. I bought the set at an antique mall, but I believe this line was sold at Super Markets back in the 1970's. | |||||
| Eva Zeisel "Museum White" dinnerware set | 2 Relevance | 19 years ago | william-holden-... | General discussion | |
| Eva Zeisel "Museum White" dinnerware set A few years ago, I decided that my motley assortment of mismatched, patterned 1950's dinnerware needed a rethink-- time to replace with a complete set, in solid white. I found a lovely set in a thrift shop-- off-white porcelain, subtle biormorphic design, fantastic condition. Set was much larger than I needed (70+ pieces, including large serving bowls and platters), but the price was right ($50 for all!). Not exactly the Russel Wright of my dreams, I told myself, but perfectly serviceable. After owning and using it fo ... | |||||
