Bertoia wire diameter difference | 2 Relevance | 15 years ago | Orleans USA | General discussion
I was wondering if anyone knew if there is a difference in the wire size used with vintage Bertoia sides chairs and the current ones today in DWR stores. It seems like the side chairs produced today have a heavier gauge....or maybe a heavier coating?
Need help authenticating Knoll dining table... | 2 Relevance | 11 years ago | saunadog | General discussion
... has the remnants of a Knoll sticker (but apparently no plaque or other identifying mark). I measured the diameter as 48", but maybe I'll have to remeasure it; as I understand it should be 47.25". The base is very heavy. I haven't done any magnet test but it would be hard to believe that it's aluminum. The top of the base puzzles me. I know this has been covered in other threads, but it has a "mounting plate" on top, which screws to the underside of the table top. Otherwise, the shape and overall weight lead me to believe that it might be original. Edite ...
Pearsall Dining Table, Authentic or Home made? | 2 Relevance | 11 years ago | Tex Brufer | General discussion
... Im guessing rubber bumpers went to protect the glass. Also notice the brass screw that join the two 90 degree pieces in the middle. I'd say the wood is pretty old because its starting to separate in a few places. The glass top is 42' in diameter like other pearsall dining tables. I just can't find one with the same square center. Has pearsall been knocked off for a long time now? Unfortunately the Pearsall website/ design section is down. Does anyone else have a catalog of Pearsall designs? Any info much appreciated.
dining for six | 2 Relevance | 16 years ago | whitespike | General discussion
What would you say is the minimum diameter for a round dining table to service 6 people? Not that I am buying any time soon, but one day I really want a Saarinen dining table and I am curious to see which diameter would work.... or which oval shape would work.... Honestly I'd love an oval one too, but the only one I've ever seen is huuuuuggeee. Being that I want an authentic one I will just have to save and wait... but if I were to find a good deal in the interim on a used/vintage one it would be nice to know what sizes work... 54"? 60"?
Looking for an Eames dining table base... | 2 Relevance | 16 years ago | kolecho | General discussion
May I ask where I can source an Eames dining table base that can take a 48" or 1.2m diameter round table top? Online retailers for new Herman Miller ones sell the top and the base as one set. The other option is to get a vintage base. Any suggestions on where I can source one online? Also, is there any difference between new and vintage Eames table base? Many thanks in advance.
Nelson bubble lamp dilemma | 2 Relevance | 17 years ago | mjhaynes21 | General discussion
i have a nelson saucer lamp above my kitchen table. the eames table i have is 41.5 inches in diameter. the two sizes of the lamp are 17.5 or 25 inches. the small one seems way too small but the medium one seems big. i went with the medium one in case i ever get a larger table. has anyone else ever had this same dilemma?
Gerald Thurston Tripod Lamp Shade Dimensions | 2 Relevance | 14 years ago | brbeard | General discussion
... (let alone two), so I'm prepared to put my diY skills to use here. On that note, does anyone on the forum own a shaded version of this lamp and, if so, would you be kind enough to hook a kid up with some shade dimensions? I can always use the photo to sort of extrapolate/approximate dimensions, but being able to be exact would be awesome... The most important dimensions to me are: Diameter of top hoop Diameter of bottom hoop Distance between the bottom and top hoop and, well, any other info you might think's pertinent! I've attached a picture of the lamp ...
Saarinen Tulip Dining Table Dog-Safe and Child-Safe? And other questions... | 2 Relevance | 14 years ago | Chicagoan | General discussion
I'm thinking of buying the 47" Saarinen tulip dining table in white laminate with a white base. Is this table pretty stable? I've only seen the ones with marble tops in person and of course those are a lot heavier and harder to move. I ask because I have a 60 lb. dog who loves to skid across our hardwood floors. I just wonder if he could knock the table over since it only has one leg. I heard the laminate version is 76 pounds so it doesn't sound totally immovable to me. Also, is it pretty topple-proof? If a friend's kid leans on it, will it hold steady or wi ...
1950s Van Keppel style dining furniture | 2 Relevance | 14 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion
My parents purchased in 1952-3 a dining room set consisting of 6 black enameled metal rung armless chairs with pads, 1 60" (approximate) round dining table with 5" wide by 3/4" thick blonde wood slats and black enameled tubular legs (about 1" in diameter) and 1 open backed sideboard with two main shelves (the bottom one with a plate groove near the back), and two small shelves (one on either end) also with the same slats and enameled legs. The pieces are of good quality. I am not sure of the type wood used. It could possibly be maple, birch or a bleached ...

The dimensions match with | 2 Relevance | 10 years ago | Dodolah | General discussion
The dimensions match with Knoll's (20" diameter, 20" heights). The way the stem tapered to match Knoll. It is the top that made me wonder. And, u are right about the top not having enough clear veining. Mine are fuzzy. The bevel cut also feels slightly rounder instead of steeper angle straight cut (i am comparing it with the new Knoll Tulip table @DWR). I wonder if i am just being nit picky? I even consider replacing the top. ebay sold one at one point. As far as the table not grounding enough, it is the felt's that preventing it from firmly ground to the fl ...

The difference I see is on | 2 Relevance | 10 years ago | leif ericson - Zephyr Renner | General discussion
The difference I see is on that top from inside-room.de, you can see the wood grain of the counter (underside) veneer. On yours the underside appears to be fiberboard. Or whatever it is, it certainly does not appear to be a wood veneer. And I don't really think that making a new top for one of these tables is too complicated to assume as a possibility. It is a small diameter, well within the size you can expect to be able to buy anywhere in the 1st world. A saw that can cut a circle is not hard to find. And the edge banding is not really even a speci ...
