| Zigzag for dining chairs with 1/2" foam? Not too sure about that. Isn't that spring design more appropriate for sofa and lounge chair frames with thick cushions? Also, my understanding is that the frames for zigzag springs are designed to handle the outward forces of the pretension. Webbing exerts forces in the opposite inward direction. | |||||

| I have a Jakaranda dining | 2 Relevance | 12 years ago | Richard Tanimura | General discussion | |
| I have a Jakaranda dining table. I looked it up and it seems to be called Brasilian Rosewood. Does that count? I am not very reverential about this table. I spill water and spaghetti sauce on mine. I also use a damp cloth on it all the time. Seems to hold up fine. It has a nice coat of Luberon finishing oil on it as protection. I think it is oil plus a little lacquer. But Luberon puts too high a shine on most surfaces. Particularly if you repeat the oiling often. So you might try boiled linseed oil cut with a little turpentine. Some furniture guy told me abo ... | |||||
| SDR asks about the dish shape | 2 Relevance | 12 years ago | Richard Tanimura | General discussion | |
| SDR asks about the dish shape. It is my opinion that for the arm chair, this was the original pattern. I base this on two examples I own which had completely original weaving. The pattern was one strand over the top and one from under. It places the plane of the seat at the mid-line of the stretchers. It gives a lightness and openness to the weave that suits the delicacy of the chair. The double strands over the top gives a denser weave in my opinion. But it is possible that just this weave was used on the dining chair. I am researching this now. I don't fin ... | |||||
| Picked up a Bambi dining | 2 Relevance | 12 years ago | cdsilva | General discussion | |
| Picked up a Bambi dining chair this morning from a local upholsterer who was cleaning out some stock. It was set up like an estate sale, and I was quite pleased to see a $25 price tag on it. Although the caning is old, I don't think it is orginal due to the weave. It's in bad enough shape that I will redo it anyway. This guy is definitely a keeper. | |||||

| Not dining height It is Not dining height. Definitely not. Seat is 16" off the ground. I referred to it as "medium height" as I was following what they say at the Eames Office website. From what I can tell, it's the same as one of the chairs on ther website, except it's an H base and not an X base. http://eamesdesigns.com/catalog-entry/max-1954/ They refer to the 16" high chair as "medium." | |||||

| My first dining table was a ... My first dining table was a walnut veneer dining table with matching chairs. The table had slides labeled "Walter of Wabash." It all appeared to be a knockoff of the Brasilia line, especially the chairs. I've never figured out what "Walter of Wabash" indicated in relation to the table. And everything about it screamed American manufacture. | |||||
