This is an original AEG company logo designed by the German architect Peter Behrens in 1912. Behrens, a pioneer of corporate-design created the word mark ‘AEG’ for the ‘Allgemeine Elektrizitäts Gesellschaft’. Originally these three large letters were mounted on the roof top of a company building. The fronts are made of red plexiglass ( acrylic glass ). The back and the edgings are from lacquered metal. Each letter’s metal edging can be opened by screws ( if you want to install new electrics and neon lamps ). Peter Behrens, the father of functional form in Europe in the early 20th century, profoundly influenced the company’s image – from advertising and product design to the architecture of its factory buildings. AEG has been renowned for its electrical engineering of consumer products. So AEG was the first company in the industry to hire a designer to help create and develop its products.
