This absolutely rare floor lamp was made by the German designer and artist Günter Ssymmanks in 1956. This special lamp was a prototype and was a limited edition of 20. They were never for sale. He just gave it to friends. The base was produced together with Vitra and the five-star base is from an Eames chair. Originally the polyamide light ball was designed for the Berlin Philharmonie which was designed by Hans Scharoun. He commissioned Günther Ssymmanks to build a lamp. After he finished the lamp Scharoun decided to hang the lamp also in the national library. Ssymmanks invented the new technique with BASF. It is the beginning of the Space Age area. Ssymmanks also designed the famous lamp “Simanka SY1” for the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The Lamp is in good vintage condition. An absolutely beautiful and special lamp which is hard to find a second time.
